The Process Of Getting Porcelain Dental Veneers: What To Expect During Your Consultation And Procedure

Dentist Blog

If you're like many people who have begun to seek ways to improve your smile, you may be considering porcelain dental veneers. Porcelain dental veneers are a popular cosmetic dentistry option that can improve the appearance of your teeth and help you achieve the smile you've always wanted. Veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth, covering imperfections such as chips, cracks, stains, or gaps.

If you're considering porcelain dental veneers, here's what you need to know.

Consultation

The first step in the process is a consultation with your cosmetic dentist. During this consultation, your dentist will examine your teeth and discuss your goals for your smile. They will also explain the veneer procedure and answer any questions you may have.

Treatment Plan

If you decide to proceed with porcelain dental veneers, your dentist will create a treatment plan. This plan will include details on the number of veneers needed, the color of the veneers, and the shape and size of the veneers.

Preparation

To prepare for porcelain dental veneers, your dentist will remove a small amount of enamel from your teeth. This is necessary to create space for the veneers and ensure a proper fit. Once the enamel is removed, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth and send them to a dental laboratory where your veneers will be custom-made.

Temporary Veneers

While you wait for your permanent veneers to be made, your dentist may place temporary veneers on your teeth. These temporary veneers will protect your teeth and give you an idea of what your new smile will look like.

Fitting

Once your permanent veneers are ready, your dentist will check the fit and color of the veneers to ensure they match your natural teeth. If any adjustments are needed, your dentist will make them before permanently bonding the veneers to your teeth.

Final Check

After the veneers are bonded to your teeth, your dentist will do a final check to ensure they fit properly and look natural. You may be asked to come back for a follow-up appointment to ensure the veneers are functioning as they should. Let your dentist know right away if you experience any pain or other unusual side effects after the process has been completed.

Be sure to ask your dentist for a thorough explanation of anything that you don't understand about the process of getting porcelain dental veneers.

Getting Your Toddler to the Dentist Once and For All

Toddlers should see a dentist for the first time by the age of twelve months or by the time their first tooth comes in. But if you are a parent with toddlers anything like mine, the prospect of going to the dentist (let alone anywhere!) can be pretty intimidating. My kids were a handful growing up. They had tantrums any time we would have to sit in a waiting room, and they refused to get in the dentist's chair during their first few visits. So, I had to employ a professional to help me make the transition to finally getting them in that dental chair without all the screaming and crying. I know I'm not the only parent in this situation, so I decided to share the information I've learned with others who can use a little help. You can find all my advice right here on these pages!
